The women using Facebook only care for their looks

The researchers at the University of Buffalo have examined how Facebook can be observed regarding the behavioral differences between the two sexes using Facebook. According to a recently published research our society expects men to be proud of their outstanding performance (eg, sports or career progress) while women should be busy to be sexy.

While all this may seem to be a rough generalization, the researcher’s collected data from Facebook has also showed that women are indeed behaving according to those expectations on the Internet.

311 participants – the average age was 23.3 years - were examined: how much time they spend on Facebook, how many photos they publish about themselves and how many friends they have. As it turned out, the women lead all the way, and women publish five times more pictures and sexy videos about themselves than men. Since for men spending time on Facebook doesn’t count as performance, they spend less time on Facebook women in contrast will seize every opportunity to draw attention to themselves or their appearance and popularity (the high number of friends).

Of course, not all women are obsessed with their looks. Psychologists distinguish the kind of woman, whose self-esteem is based on their appearances before the public. They rely on the opinion of others on their own assessment of their own beauty, or lack thereof. The research shows that this is the kind of women, who is responsible for the high popularity of Facebook.

However, there are also women whose self-esteem is based on their private sphere, and that means how they live morally, and if their families love them or is there harmony in their environment. Because such women feels themselves better when they did something good with somebody, they don’t spend so much time on Facebook searching for suitors and likers.

Of course, the research would have been more interesting, if  the ratio between the two type of women would be made public, but the researchers probably don’t want to to draw any conclusions from so a low numbers of persons asked.
